EVFTA Opens New Chapter for Vietnam’s Garment Industry
The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is reshaping Vietnam’s garment industry and creating new opportunities for EU buyers. Starting in 2024, garments produced with Vietnamese-origin fabrics benefit from 0% import tax, and by 2025 all apparel exports will be completely tax-free enhancing competitiveness and reducing costs for European partners.
Beyond tariffs, the EVFTA simplifies trade by removing consular authentication after three years and outlines a seven-year roadmap toward full tariff liberalization. These measures strengthen Vietnam’s position as a key apparel manufacturing hub, giving EU buyers access to high-quality, sustainable products through faster and more cost-efficient supply chain.

CPTPP Opens New Markets for Vietnamese Textile and Clothing Exports
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), in effect for Vietnam since 2019, gives Vietnamese manufacturers wider access to major markets across Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. With the United Kingdom included, the CPTPP now brings together 12 member economies representing nearly 15% of global GDP.
For Vietnam’s textile and garment industry, the agreement reduces trade barriers and provides preferential tariffs for qualifying products. It also encourages higher standards in rules of origin, labor, sustainability, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
With strong manufacturing capabilities, skilled labor, an established garment supply chain, and access to multiple free trade agreements, Vietnam continues to strengthen its position as an important sourcing and garment manufacturing hub for international brands, importers, and retailers.
