EVFTA Opens New Chapter for Vietnam’s Garment Industry

The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) marks a turning point for Vietnam’s garment industry and EU buyers, eliminating nearly 99% of customs duties. Starting in 2024, garments made with Vietnamese-origin fabrics will enjoy 0% import tax, and by 2025, all apparel exports will be entirely tax-free. These changes enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam garment factories, offering EU partners significant cost savings and efficient supply chains.
Beyond tariff reductions, the EVFTA simplifies trade processes by removing consular authentication requirements after three years. With a seven-year roadmap for full tariff liberalization, the agreement bolsters Vietnam’s position as a leading Vietnam clothing manufacturer, particularly in textiles and apparel. This partnership empowers EU buyers to source high-quality, sustainable products from garment factories in Vietnam, fostering stronger, cost-effective, and mutually beneficial trade relationships.
CPTPP Opens New Markets for Vietnamese Textile and Clothing Exports

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is one of the most significant trade agreements Vietnam has ever joined. Signed in 2018 and officially taking effect for Vietnam in January 2019, the CPTPP links Vietnam to a dynamic network of 10 other countries across Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas. These include major economies such as Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Chile, and more—collectively representing nearly 13% of global GDP.
For Vietnam, this agreement opens the door to a wide range of export opportunities by removing trade barriers and eliminating tariffs on most goods, especially in key sectors like textiles, garments, seafood, footwear, and electronics. Beyond just tariff reductions, CPTPP also promotes fair competition, transparency, and sustainable development. It gives Vietnam greater access to premium markets that were previously limited due to high import taxes, while also encouraging domestic industries to upgrade quality, traceability, and compliance standards.
By joining the CPTPP, Vietnam not only boosts its export potential but also strengthens its role in global supply chains. This partnership has proven to be a major catalyst in attracting foreign investment, expanding manufacturing capacity, and reinforcing Vietnam’s position as a leading manufacturing and sourcing hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
